About this journal

I am currently working on a PhD exploring the Uncanny Valley. This journal was used to write about my MSc dissertation on the topic, and I plan to continue to post updates on my research and items of interest to the UV community and interested readers.

The research topic is the uncanny valley. This idea was first proposed by the Japanese roboticist Masahiro Mori, and describes a perceptual/emotional phenomenon which occurs when people view non-human faces which have been designed to look human-like. There is a small but growing community of researchers who are approaching this subject from a wide variety of perspectives. After a successful MSc project looking at the subject from a psychological perspective, I am now looking in more detail into how and why the effect occurs, mainly using cognitive and experimental psychology approaches.

For reasons of confidentiality, all research planning and finding posts prior to publication will only be available to friends of the journal. Please contact me to be added.

You can read more about my publications and presentations on my website: http://www.uncanny-valley.co.uk/
